KARU INQUIRY.

FURTHER EVIDENCE. Auckland, April 1. The inquiry into the wreck of the Karu wa s resumed, Mr. Meredith stating that the .Marine Department was anxious that the vessel, which was now on the beach, should be examined by an engineer, and that would place beyond doubt whether Halliday’s evidence was correct. It was suggested that there was nothing against Captain Richmond, and that he be allowed to withdraw from the inquiry. The court said it would hardly go that far, but would say there was nothing in the evidence to effect his certificate. Tile inquiry was adjourned to April 28.
