ANNUAL MEETINC HELD. SOUND FINANCIAL POSITION. Tho Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union held its annual meeting in Napier last evening, Mr. J. A. 1* raser presiding over a good attendance of delegates from the different sub-unions and clubs. The president, in moving the adopwere read and adopted. The president in mobing the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, said that he wished to extend congratulations to all footballers on their performances during the past successful season, especially to the representative team which' had upheld the honour of the province in such a fine manner. Great credit was due to the secretary and the committee who had managed matters so efficiently that the union’s funds now amounted to £2.020. Hawke’s Bay. which had once been considered a minor union, was now in a very powerful position. The accounts showed a profit on the year’s working of .£873. which, in view of the heavy expenses incurred, was extremely satisfactory. The union had now a balance of some £1682 in eash and a further amount of £125 on loan to the Cricket Association. During the year the union’s assets had been considerably added to. new stands to the value of £l2B having been erected: £lOO grant to the High School on i account of their new ground and £5O to the Wairoa Sub-union to help it finance its tour. Mr. J. W. Norrie said that the union was to be congratulated on its sound financial position and he had the greatest pleasure in seconding the motion. The motion was carried unanimously. BLACK AND WHITE SHIELD. Mr. Maunder brought up the matter of how the points for the Black and White Shield wore allotted. There were, it appeared, only three teams, Hastings, Pirates and H. 5.0.8., which had a chance of winning the shield. He thought that the competition should he. confined to three instead ol four grades. It was understood that the competition was open to clubs outside of Napier and Hastings and unless those clubs played the same number of games thev did not stand a chance. Mr. Tweedie pointed out that if the competition was confined to three grades then a chib with a team no higher than a junior had no chance at aIL The shield had already been won by a club with teams of this sort. Air. N. A. McKenzie stated that the shield was for the promotion of dub football. The more honour to the dub who could put in a large number of teams in the field. It was not for the dub whose teams were highest in the competition, but to the one which amassed most points during the season. Mr. Norrie was of the same opinion as Mr. McKenzie. Air. Alaunder suggested that dubs should nominate three teams to compete lor the shield. Air. Callaghan thought it a great pity if a dub were limited to three teams. The best system was one oi percentage with a proviso. A dub with most wins would not then necessarily win the shield. He moved that the management committee take into consideration the allotting of the points for the Black and White Shield on a percentage basis. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
