Heretaunga Sports Club

FIRST ANNUAL GATHERING. AT NELSON PARK. HASTINGS The first annual sports meeting in connection with the Heretaunga Athletic Sports Club was held on Nelson Park, Hastings, to-day. The weather was overcast and threatening in the morning, but the rain fortunately held off, enabling all the races to be got off punctually to time. The Hastings Band was in attendance and enlivened' the proceedings with their programme. The officials were :—Chairman, Mr. A. Hayes; judges, field events and tug-of-war. Judge Gilfedder and Mr. T. Milne ; running and cycling events, Messrs. G. Maddison. G. Ebbett, D. Guymer. S. Mackerel and V. Wall; timekeeper, Mr. E. Bowen; assistant timekeeper, Mr. J. Collins; handicapper, Mr. C. Price; starter, Mr. RM Hewitt; children’s events, Messrs T. Donovan. Brady and R. Poppelwell; gatekeeper, Mr. J. Sticklana { stewards. Messrs. \V. O’Neill, T. Milne, H. Mackerel, D. Guymer. O. Oliver, F. Lowry, A. Hayes, V. Wall, J. W. Gardiner, Rogers, R. Poppelwell and T. South! dispute stewards, Messrs. J. Johnson, W. O’Neill and A. Hayes; announcer, Mr. W. O’Neill. The hon. secretary, Mr. V. R. Maney, was most assiduous in his duties, and everything passed off very smoothly. A number of children and novelty events were run during the afternoon.
