UPTURNED VESSEL SIGHTED.
BELIEVED TO BE THE LIALEETA. (Received 30, 8.50 a.m.) Sydney, Dec. 30. The master of the schooner Holmwood, from Wanganui to Newcastle, reported that he sighted on December 12 an upturned wooden vessel floating about a hundred miles north-west of the north end of the North Island of New Zealand. It is believed to be the missing ketch Lialeeta. A marine court of inquiry in Melbourne into the loss of the Lialeeta found that the vessel was seaworthy and foundered at sea through stress of storm. The Lialeeta was lost between Spencer’s Gulf. South Australia and Melbourne, in April last. She carried a crew of either three or four but the name of only one, James Bell, is known. Captain’ W. H. Taylor was in command.
