Echo of Election
THE LYTTELTON SEAT. MR. McCOMB’S PETITION. Christchurch, Dee. 24. Mr. J. McCombs lodged an election petition in connection with the Lyttelton seat this morning. It asks that the ballot papers he subjected to a further recount, and that the petitioner he declared duly elected, inasmuch as the majority of the valid votes cast were in his favour. Mr. McCombs alleges that certain persons were enrolled as electors and voted who did not reside in the district, that a number of persons enrolled had not resided one year in Now Zealand, and that a number of valid votes recorded for the petitioner were wrongly counted as informal. The Westland election petition, to be heard bv the election court comprised of Mr. Justice Stringer and Mr. Justice Ostler, will be sitting probably early in the new year.—(Press Association.)
