ST. LUKE’S CHURCH SCHOOL.

Canon Maclean, in the December number of the “NNaiapu Church Gazette,” says that St. Luke’s Church School, Havelock North, was founded to give expression to the conviction that religion is the basis of education (and not only an adjunct to it) and that education based on religion should bo put within the reach of all who desired it for their children, whether their incomes are largo or small. To carry this out it is essential that the fees should bo low and so the support of the church is necessary if the school is to pay its way. He hopes that in .the future the school will receive endowments from those who have the church’s cause at heart, which will put it on a sound financial basis. At present, by the most devoted work, firstclass' results are obtained with the minimum of staff and the barest necessities of equipment. He quotes the inspector’s latest report, which is as follows:—Mrs. Wilkinson is doing distinctly good work in this school. Every subject bears the impress of thorough and systematic teaching. Special reference should be made to the sound teaching of writing, and to the fine enunciation of many of the pupils in reading. Order, tone and discipline are very good. Accommodation is just sufficient to moot requirements. Suitable provision is made for ventilation, cleaning and lighting.”

Canno Maclean says the committee is grateful for the splendid work .Mrs. Wilkinson and Miss Wettenhall arc doing.
