At Wanganui on Thursday morning: The weather was favourable for training operations, but the tracks were very hard, and most of the horses, I having galloped on Tuesday, the work J was not of ]>articular interest.— Motley 1 and Lysander were given half pace work. The latter struck himself the other morning while doing a gallop, but did little damage beyond taking a bit of skin off.—Attractive and Horoinca wore given a six-furlong spin, the distance being run in 1.16. Dug by “The Del ver.” On Monday next first-day acceptances have to be in for the Wairarapa New Year meeting, and on Tuesday those lor the Hawke’s Bay, Marton and Staatlord summer fixtures. L. Alanson has been engaged to ride Broadwood in the Railway Handicap. H. Burns, who rode Clarinda at Woodville, has been engaged to ride that marc in the Alanawatu Cup. B. 11. Morris will ride Mr. V. Riddi- ■ ford’s horses at Awapuni when the I weights permit. He will also be on Motley in the Palmerston North Stakes and probablv on Ngata in the Cup, so another rider will have to be found for Enthusiasm. The Riucarton jockeys 1). Cotton and ; 11. Burns will be riding at the ManaI watu Racing Club’s summer meeting, j I where they have numerous engage- | ’ moots. Cotton will do the Wairarapa New Year meeting, while Burns will ; probably be at Marton. Since winning at Woodville No j Favours has changed stables, and is [ now at Trentham under the same care 1 as Dogage. A “contingency” has been registered i as between Mr. A. J. Toxward and Mr. A. B. Williams wi.h regard to . Star Stranger’s yearling full-brother : (Martian Star Lady), it co.ers the period till the end oi his four-year-old , season. In reply to a verbal enquiry -.—The . law imposing a prohibition mi the publication of totalisator dividends was , 1101 introduced bv the Reform Go.erumont. but as tar back as 1.907 during Sir Joseph Ward's premieiship. A Sjmney writes sa\s that it would now bo fairly safe to bet that The Hawk will remain in Australia until alter the com lusion of the next auiun.i: meetings in All'll.ourne and Sydney. E. George will not leave New Plymouth for Auckland till the middle of next week, having decided to avail himself of the splendid local track as long as possible. Both Uie Banker and Lady Ca ondish are reported to have boon working 1 very well on the track at Hawera. Cox intends starting both Roremoaua and Ladv Cavendish in the A.R.C. Railway Handicap. L. (1. Morris is to ride the former, hut so far no rider has been j engaged fpr the filly. j ’‘Polonett has had a quiet time since | To Awamutn and it is the same with | Gala Day,” writes an Auckland correspondent. “Polonett failed badly as a , stayer last season, but with another I year on him he may do better. His i form at Tc Awamutn was incorrect.” i H. Goldfinch has been engaged to ride Star Area in the Great Northern Derby and Money Order in the Railway j Handicap. J. T. Jamieson intends to start both Spoony and Steel Bar. and of the pair Spoony may be the hoi tor. Stool Bar | has shown over.v indication of being a I stayer, but lie is perhaps not mass ' enough to win an Auckland Cup. Both horses arc, however, very well. -An I Auckland correspondent. I it is not often that we hoar of a horse leaving George Price’s capable hands for other training quarters. However, Baldwin, with whom he won a good race quite recently, has left his establishment for the stables of his owner, Mr. I). V. Seaton. I A field of sixteen, quite big enough ' for the comfortable running of the .race, has been left in the Auckland Cup after last night’s first acceptance. The further payment that has to be made on the day may see one or two more drop out. hut probably there will hi? at least a. dozen or more start.
