The United States Governnient, on an appeal, won the fight to sustain the oil indictments, which had been quashed. The Government is now permitted to institute proceedings for bribery. The legislative programme for the forthcoming Federal sssion will occupy the attention of members for about six months. Air Bruce will leave for London about September to attend the Imperial conferences.
The Governnient Statistician’s figures show that the drink hill in New South Wales for the past year amounted to £11,670,000, equal to £5 3/7 per head of population, being an increase of £321,000. or lid per head of population compared with the preceding year. An examination of the steamers Chillagoc and Suva, which collided near Sydney .revealed extensive damage to both vessels. Thev will be in dock for several weeks. 'The.
