FRENCH WOMAN SPY. ARREST OF ALLEGED ACCOMPLICES. ESPIONAGE SENSATION AT PARIS Paris, Dec. 7. Following ihe arrest of Marcel!e Monseil, an artist’s model, the police arrested three British subjects for alleged spying in connection with aviation. They also arrested Lionel Wict, who posed as a naval officer. The British subjects arc Phillips, director of a wireless telegraphy company; William Fisher, his employer; and John Leather, an engineer. They admit that they know Marcella Monseil but deny spying. Marcello Monseil made a full confession, including the names of two foreign agents for whom she was spying in connection with naval aviation secrets. She says she heard of Wiet’s arrest when returning to Paris with secret instructions hidden in a curved tube inside her garter. Fearing disclosures, she emptied the tube and also destroyed papers concealed in her cloak. Torn clothing confirms the confession.
-Monseil is a Frenchwoman, described a s a second Matahari, tho actress spy, who was shot at Vincennes during the war. The authorities aro secretive about the Power employing the woman, but state that it is not Germany. The discovery was due to a ’mere chance. Wiet was arrested for attempting to defraud officers of the Xersailles garrison, but during the magistrate's examination he chanced to mention Monseil. Tho police immediately recognised the name as that of a woman who visited many ports and aviation grounds.
Monseil denies that Wiet was an accomplice. She told the police she "as about to become a parachutist in order to descend into aviation camps at \ersailles and Villa Coublav—(A and N.Z.) v
