Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Sorenson arrived in Hastings by last night’s express tram. Mr. J. Lyons, director of the live stock division of the Department of Agriculture, is on a departmental visit to Hawke’s Bay. Mr. W. I). Stewart. New Zealand superintendent for Messrs. Dalgety and Company, is visiting Hawke’s Bay. He will return to 'Wellington at the end of the week. Air. Gordon Rich, of Havelock North, has just completed his last year at the Dunedin -Medical School, and in tho final exam, has passed in all his subjects. Tho marriage has been arranged, and will take place at Easter, in jingland, between Glory, eldest daughter of All and Airs H. fan Simson, Araroa, Blull Hill, Napier, and Colonel T. Naugle, 12 St. James’ Square, London. Commander G. L. T. Loeker-Lamp-son has been appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary to tho Foreign Office, in succession to Air Ronald AlcNcil, who has been appointed Financial Secretary to tho Treasury, says a London cable. Sir Thomas and Lady Alackenzie loft Wellington for England on Alonday on an extended visit, undertaken in the interests of Lady Afnckcnzio’s heal 11 which - has not been satisfactory for some time. The death occurred at Wellington on Sunday of Air Charlqs A. Hayes, who. had been attached to the office of the Minister for Lands for eight years. He is survived by a widow and grown-up family. Air C. Alunro, special representative of Fox Film Corporation, arrived by the Makura from Sydney on Alonday. Air Alunro, who is accompanied by his wife, will make a stay of four or five weeks, and will visit all the main centres of Now Zealand. Bishop Taylor-Smith, late ChaplainGeneral of the British Army, will visit New Zealand this month. lie has been invited by the N.Z. Church Alissionary Society io attend the Summer Mission School at Nelson during the Christmas holidays. Sir Douglas Alawson, the Antarctic explorer, will arrive in New Zealaitd early in the New Year on business. Ho js a trustee director of the Australasian Forest Bondholders’ Trust Company, and will visit Putaruru, whore there are large timber plaorations. An Invercargill message states that the Governor-General and party visited the hospitals yesterday afternoon. At the public hospital he spent nearly two Hours chatting wirh every patient and meeting several who served under liim. His Excellency had a great reception at tho soldiers’ reunion in -.so evening. To-day he visited tIicTAA. and P. Show and was entertained at iuncheon. Perfect summer weather prevails and tho tour is most enjoyable.
