LONDON DOCKERS' STRIKE.
EXTENSION TO TILBURY. PROSPECT OF SETTLEMEN r. (Received 8, 1.15 p.m.) London, Dec. 7. The strike has extended to Tilbury, owing to the diversion thither of the Maloja. which was originally intended to disci targe at the King George dock, where the trouble originated in connection with the Largs Bay. Work began on the Maloja yesterday by the Peninsular Company’s own labourers, who have no connection with the stevedoring contractors whose employees are striking at the King George dock. To-day the Majoja’s workers declined to continue to discharge her and refuse dto work other steamers, including the Ayrshire, just arrived with a large refrigerated cargo, 'Hie strikers and employers conferred this afternoon and though the result was not announced it is believed there is a prospect of work being resumed to-morrow. It is understood the trouble on the Largs Bay arose from the use of electric bogey trucks to convey meat along the quayside to barges, thereby enabling the employers to reduce the men employed by 50 per cent., but electric trucks are not employed at Tilbury.— (A. and N.Z.)
