AUCKLAND SCRATCH-NG. Auckland, Dec. 7. Tuscan was scratched at 2 p.m. today for the Railway Handicap at the Auckland summer meeting. FALLS ON TEE FLAT. TA KAP U N A COM MITTEE’S FINDINGS. Auckland. Dee. 8. The accidents which occurred at the Takapuna Jockey ( tub’s recent Spring Meeting formed the subject of :tu exhaustive inquiry by the judicial committee of the club, and the following findings were made;— “Cheltenham Handicap.- That the falling of Finelli, Nancy Lee. and Lady Lois dining tin 1 running of the* Cheltenham Handicap on Saturday, November 28, was due to Finelli crossing her legs and falling, thereby bringing down Nancy Lee and Lady Lois, which were the horses following. The Evidence of IE Dnlieu went to show that his foot was previously injured during the running of the Alison Cup. and that through the injured foot being jammed at the start of the Cheltenham Handicap he fell faint and dizzy, and had no recollection of riding in ary partof the race after passing the live furlongs post. “Vauxhall Handicap.—That after hear in gthe evidence of W. H. Jones, rider of Archeno, R. W. AlcTavish, rider of Rahepoto, also a statement made* by A. McGregor, rider of Festina lamte. Io the stipendiary steward, with reference to the falling of Rahepoto and Festina Ix'nte on Monday, November 30, the judicial committee are unanimously of opinion that the accident was due to Rahepoto crossing his legs and falling, thereby bringing down Festina Lente. It was clearly establishel that the accident w.is in no way attributable to the course, which was admitted by each jockey to be in excellent condition and perfectly sale to ride on. “Ngatariuga Welter Handicap.- - After lull inquiry and consideration of the evidence given it was found that the accident was caused by Drawbridge galloping on to the heels of Loyal I rish. COURSE IN GOOD ORDER. “A statement having been published that the l accidents which occurred at the meeting were due to the condition ol the racecouse. the judicial committee, in conjunction with the stipendiary steward, macle a careful investigation as to the correctness of the statement, and find that it is abso- • lately without foundation, ami that the accidents which occurred were wholly due io happenings during the running of tlio races. The evidence given by jockeys conclusively jiroved that the l falls of horses were wholly accidental, ami that the Takapuna racccour.se was in excellent order and condition. ’’ I MARTON .1.0. DIVOTS. Dug by “The Delvri . To-night entries for tho Dunedin summer meetingg are due; on Thursday those for the Stratford summer fixture; and on Friday those for hotn the Hawke’s Bay and the Marton New Year gatherings. It is now announced that L. G. Morris will ride Count Cavour in the Auckland Cup. Oration is said to be a sure starter in the Railway Handicap at Ellerslie, and W. H. Jones will have the mount. “If reports current at the Feilding meeting are correct,” says the Christchurch “Sun.” “Runnymede was sold for .’,35 guineas.” The typo has evidently been at work here. Possibly tho reference intended is to a much lesser light, Horomea-, whose .sale during tho Feilding fixture was mentioned here a day or two ago. Glentruin’s entry for some of the minor open sprint events at Ellerslie would point to tho intention to race her there and not a.t Awapuni. Money Order, another Riccarton-trained entrant for the Auckland Railway Handicap, has also been nominated for other northern events. Sun Up, a winner at Saturday’s Methven meeting, figures in a number of races at the Ellerslie meeting. Ho will he taken north under the care of R. W. King. One of the surprises of racing was the good price Doucaliou paid when he won tin* Methven Cup at Riccarton on Saturday. 11c was widely expected to be favourite. Actually two others were better backed. According to a report from the Wairaiapa Pcneus has gone on ,Lhe right way since racing at Ihe New Zealand Cup Meeting. He has not done* a great deal of fast work, hut possibly some idea of his condition will be gained at Woodville. 'The pour acceptances fop the To Awamutu Cup to be run on Saturday will ho something of a disappointment to those who were hoping to get a line to Hie Auckland Cup from it. Still, tho winner of the big Ellerslie event may possibly be among the. seven 1 ‘ft m to run at the Waipa meeting. 'Thu Awamutu Cup winners of recent years who have gone on to win the Auckland Cup arc Depredation and Starland.

It was thought that Lucinda and Carnot might be included with Haze and Nincompoop in R. J. .Mason’s team lop Ellerslie, as all four were being worked the right-handed way ar Riccarton. However, Lucinda’s unplaced performance as second favourite in the SpringHe.d Trial Plate at Riccarton on Saturday does not afford much encouragement to take her on the long northern journey. A South Is'and three-year-ol<l of whom Christchurch writers seem to expect better things shortly than in the past is Sparklight, half-sister by Autuninus, to Limelight. Starland, and Starmist. She is said to have thrown off muscle troubles that have affected hep badlv and to be now moving so freely in her work as to promise doing ea'Ev justice, to her breeding. 'l’lie Auckland Racine Club has received a tremendous volume of general entries for its Summer Meeting, as many as 70 being nominated for one of the events, white those top more than one of the others run well ovei’ the ha!f-hundred. It looks as if there would have to he a good few “divisions” made unless acceptance days see a big culling out. ' Merry Day had a short let-up after Hie New Zealand Cup .Meeting, but probably will be seen out at Woodville. Her stablemato Kilceit is said to be wed forward, and has been doing good work. J. B. Pearson produced a good dividend payer at. Riccarton on Saturday in Equerry, winner of the Trial Plato, lie is a tlireo-yoar-old gelding by Clarcnceux—Lady Reina, and is half-bro-ther to Tyne, who commenced his racing some seasons ago in .Mr. Greenwood's colours. It is probable that F. Tilley will take Mundane. Tukia, Limited, Shining Armour, Glonross. ami a two-year-old Idly by Absurd—llincpango to Auckland. Enthusiasm has no engagements at Auckland and will no doubt race at Manawatu. She ran so wed at Foildmg that many are sorting her out as a likely winner of the Manawatu Cup. The Trentham owner-trainer H. Longa n, who had such a successful run with Eonmark and Orchid at the spring meetings in tho South Island. Ims’ the pair freely engaged at the Auckland summer meeting. Black Cat, Royal Divorce, and Fool’s Paradise are the only other "Wellington horses, bar Star Ranger, who has not returned since the spring meeting, to have engagements made for them at Ellerslie. There are 22 still left in the Great Northern Derby, and ol that, lot Mandaiie and Star Stranger are. at present tho most fancied candidates. 'Hie Wanganui writer “Achilles” ■says; “The Thorn and Alask are Jikelv to go tho post for (he Auckland Derby. The racing Tho Thorn had at Auckland last, month improved him a lot, but whether he will stay out tho mile and a-half remains to be seen. If he. can he will he handy at the finish. Mask shapes iike a stayer, and the improvement he has made recently points to him as one likely Lo run a big pace if he goes on all right.” Letter of Credit, a winner at the Tauinariinui meeting on Saturday, is a three year-old filly by Paper Money- - Killala, who races in the same colours as Spoony, those of .Mr. Fred Earl. She was a winner as a two-year-old, but Saturday’s race marked her first appearance this season. J. T. Jamieson is having a remarkably successful run with his team. Eden Hall, a four-year-old gelding b\- Quin Abbey, in the same 11 wcra stable as Muraahi ami The Lamo, started in the maiden races each day at Feilding, but was harrier shy, and jumped back each day. V/hcu more ex[>cricnccd and cured of this habit, says an onlooking scribe, he will win rances ,as he has pace, and looks a Mr. AV in. Foss, whoso death at AucKlaud, aged 19. was announced lust week, was closely connected with racing matters for a long period. He owned several good racehorses, including Cuiragno, Master Soult, Eiysiau. In the year 1906 Cuiragno won the Grand National Hurdle Race at Christchurch. while Elysian won the first Champagne Plate, other., being notable, winners. Air. Foss had been ill for many months past, but kept in close touch with his business and racing; affairs during the whole period. He leaves a widow and three sons. Everything points io Haze being cue of die most favoured starters in the Auckland Cup, so that the following remarks by a South Island writer ou his past performances and future prospects should be of special intcresi : “Haze rallies at present as th* l iu>-t unlucky horse that has raced in tho Dominion for a. long ttni’-. 110 j nit : maiden, though lie ha filled place in several important cut. , m

eluding the Groat Autumn Handicap and Hawke’s Bay Cup last season, and the Canterbury Jockov Club’s Aletropolitan Handicap a few weeks ago. On more uian ono occasion ho appeared to be beaten because his light riders wore unable to got the best out ol him jit the finish, owing to physical disabilities. His Auckland Cup pilot, B Rosen, is a very strong rider, and in this respect Haze should have oveftyi opportunity at Ellerslie of breaking the spell of bad luck that has followed him so far in big races. has to allow Haze 51b for tho beating in the Aletropolitan Handicap, and apart tiom this Haze should he a better horse by Boxing Day.' A Sydney writer has gone to the trouble of attaching present-day' prizemonev to the races that Carbine won, and finds that on this footing his earnings J instead of being £29,626 as they actually, were, would have, been £67,595, or something about 50 per cent, more than Gloaming’s. Ata recent Australian meeting four two-year-olds that had cost among them 7,675 guineas as yearlings were all beaten by one that had been bought for 80 guineas. A syndicate of ten English sportsmen recently offered 50,000 guineas for the 3-year-old Argos—Capdane colt Dioinedes with the object of retiring him to the stud, but the offer was injected. As a yearling ho cost 270 guineas. There are plenty of “pigeons” on the turf, but this was not one of them. It was a genuine “homer”—which turf pigeons generally are ‘ not —and is said to have made- a world’s record recently over the 600 miles between Melbourne and Port Augusta, covering the distance in twelve hours’ actual Hying time. Even The Hawk couldn’t muster this ])aco for as many yards. -Mr. IE C. Simpson has arrived in Auckland from Sydney with a team of light harness horses consisting of Fancy Pronto. Alcryl Pronto. ].a.l Pronto. Don Douglas and Direct H. Tin* horses are engaged at the Auckland summer meeting, and arc now included among the regular workers at Alexandra Park. Mr. Simpson is a well-known breeder of trotters in New South Wales, ami is the owner of the American-bred sires Don Pronto and Wilbur Lou. Ho has previously ai si led New Zealand, anj was hero hist season with Alaggie Pronto and Don Douglas.
