YOUNG FIRE FIGHTER.
LITTLE FELLOW' BADLY BURNT. (Special to “Tribune.”) Christchurch, Nov. 5. Through trying to stamp out a fire late yesterday afternoon a bravo lad. the six-year-old son of an Ashburton resident, was severely burned in both legs. The lad, whoso name is S. Colville, lives with James Walker at Ashburton. He madb friends with an unknown boy on the street. Together they went to a straw stack on Walker’s property where the unknown boy struck a match. The loose straw and grass quickly ignited and the flames rapidly spread. Colville ran for a bucket of water, but could not extinguish the blaze. Next he tried to trample the flames out but this also failed. Nearby adults noticed the smoke and came on the scene and found the little chap still fighting valiantly although severely burned and on the verge of collapse. The fire brigade was called out but was unable to save the stack. The unknown boy ran away as soon as thq fire started. Colville had his burns attended to and is progressing sa tisf actonlv.
