ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
At the inquest yesterday at I Awamutu, concerning the death oi a child three years olu, the finding was in accordance witli the medical evidence that death followed an acute attack oi infantile paralysis. 'Hie child went to Te Awamutu from Auckland a month ago, and was staying with friends 28 miles out, in bush country. Constable Doyle stated that on Friday he received advice that a suspected ease of paralysis had occurred, and the parents’ financial position was such that they were unable to seek medical attention, nor could they get a conveyance to remove the child from the backblocks. He communicated with the Health Department at Hamilton, and was advised that instructions would be sought urgently. Up to the present the Department had tailed to give any instructions. Hie police, on their own initiative, arranged lor another settler to bring the child in, and tor a doctor to give attention, but death occurred before such help could be e ivcn. I'he H< alth Department took no action whatsoever.
