BAND CONCERT AT HASTINGS.
VISIT OF NAPIER “MARINES.” 'lhe Napier Marino Band gave two very successful concerts in Hastings yesterday, when they played in Queen Square in the afternoon, and th© Municipal Theatre in the evening. The weather for tho afternoon recital proved very cold, but, despite this, a goodly number turned out to listen to the very enjoyable programme submitted, the sum of £6 being realised. The evening performance was preceded by the band marching through the town from Roach s’ corner to the theatre, displaying their new uniforms, which looked very fine indeed. At 8.15 the band commenced the programme with a march, (a) “Red Dragoons” and (b) “Sardou” (air varie). which was played in nice style. A violin solo by Master J. Shirley was then given, who had to respond to a well-earned encore. The “Crespino” selection from the hand was then followed by a song from Miss Ethel Cook, who is a singer of much promise, and had to appear again. Miss Gwen Dalton was very pleasing in her two recitations, as also was the hand in the concert waltz “Thoughts.” The most popular item of the evening was the singing of Mr. Ken Wirks, who had to appear three times before the audience were satisfied. The march ‘ Canberra” by the band was the concluding item. The recital was quite a success and Mr. P. Spiller, who acted as stage manager, thanked those present for their patronage, and a special word of praise to Mr. Chas. Bryant for making the trip to Hastings possible. , The accompaniments were well rendered In- Mrs Bromley Hill and Miss R. Briaseo. and the band was under the very able baton of Mr. F. Hopkinson.
