NEW ZEALANDERS WIN. Sydney, July 19. In tho presence of 10,000 people, and ill fine weather on a heavy ground, the New Zealand League football team scored the initial win of their tour by defeating the Newcastle and Maitland district, at NewniasCie, by 29 to 11. The game was patchy and sometimes uninteresting. Tho Newcastle defeat was mainly duo to lost opportunities and faulty passing. A feature of the game was Dufty’s goal kicking and long line kicks. Although Newcastle almost invariably won the ball from the scrums, they handled it badly, and were unable to follow up the advantage. Now Zealand forced the game strongly in the first, half, and led at the interval by 11 points to 3. In the second spell Newcastle’s tackling was deadly, but the visitors’ superior weight told. Tho game was very fast in this spell, and tho locals were holding the visitors well, the score. 15 minutes before no-side whistle sounded, being 11 to 8 in favour of New Zealand. At this stage New Zealand ran away with the game, and added the extra points in the last ten minutes.

The scorers for New Zealand were: Brown (2), Dufty, Satfnders, Weatherall, Herring and Averv. and Dufty kicked four goals. The scorers for Newcastle were Syme and Brown (2) and Hodgens kicked one goal.
