HASTINGS WOMEN’S COMMUNITY CLUB.
The art exhibition held last Tuesday at the Hastings Women’s Community Club was most successful, the rooms being crowded in the afternoon fur Miss Spencer’s talk on spinning and wcav ing. Paintings were shown by Mcsdames Crompton Smith and Davidson, and Messrs Rush, Penlington and Oliphant; handcraft by Miss Elianor Adkins (bookbinding, leatherwook and jewellery) and Miss Mathewson (papermachic and tortoiseshell); woven article by Misses Spencer, Edna Burberry and Huggett, and carving and a painted wood candlestick by Miss Ruth Nelson, all of whom arc members of the Have- > lock Art Club. Added to these were a; set of beautiful etchings by a young artist, Miss Fred Chadwick; woodcarv ing by Mr Pope, which was greatly ad mired, four equisite miniatures by Mr Donald Parkin, a number of paintings by Mr Wallace Poll, and a sketch in poster style by Miss Gosling. The club intends to arrange an ex hibition of aniques next month, for which a number of interesting things have been promised© On Thursday afternoon at the music circle, Mr Ernest Jamieson, of Napier, gave a short pianoforte recital before a most appreciative audience. Mr Jamieson’s playing shows a finished technique, and though his lightness and delicacy of touch were most admired; ho did not lack the weight and depth required for the heavier passage * Hr | programme was as -follows: Prelude! (Rachmaninoff)( (1) Night in May' Palmgren) Rain in the Garden (de Bussey), To a Waterlily (McDowell), Girl with the Golden Hair (de Bussey), (2) March Miltaire, B major Etude, 1) flat nocturne, A flat waltz, and C sharp minor waltz (Chopin).
