THE PICTURE HOUSES.
COSY DE LUXE. Two photoplays of outstanding merit were presented to a very large audience at the Cosy Theatre, Hastings, on Saturday evening. The Allan Dwan production of Rex Beach’s novel,, “Big , Brother,” more than filled expectations. It is one of the most vivid and realistic pictures of the underworld ot New York that has been shown on the screen. Tom Moore, Raymond Hatton and Edith Roberts, the principals, were charming in their respective roles. “Enemies of Children” is a brilliant screen adaption of George Gibbs’s novel, “Youth Triumphant.” The story deals with"the tangled loves and romances of two generations As readers of the story will recall, it is h fast-moving tale of plot and counterplot, in wliich a beautiful young woman, who has been cast off in her childhood rises triumphantly upward into beautiful womanhood through the sordidness of the slums. This is a rare programme and should not be missed by those who enjoy first-class entertainment. MUNICIPAL. There wag a large and enthusiastic audience at the Hastings . Municipal Theatre on Saturday evening to see the Realart feature. “The Truthful Liar,” starring Wanda Hawley. The picture contains all the elements that go to make a finished production, but special mention must be made of the meritorious performance of Miss Hawley. who has undoubtedly given us a masterful interpretation. “The Truthful Liar” is an appealing and thrilling drama and one of the nest that has been seen for some considerable time. The Baby Peggy comedy, “Peg of the Mounteds,” brought forth roars or laughter, and the antics of the “baby” were excruciatinglv funny. The Paramount comedv, “Bride and Gloom,” was also good, as were the gazettes and the orchestral accompaniments. This fine programme will be presented for the last time this evening,
