WHITE SLAVERY.
BOGUS STAGE CONTRACTS.
London, Nov. 2. Mr Arthur Bourchier, the well-known actor-manager, declares that British stage must revolt against the profession being used as a baft by white slave traffickers.
Girls were taken abroad, he said, by cunningly contrived contracts, purporting to show theatrical engagements. By these means, girls were being decoyed to South America. The whole system was bogus, and its managers and agents must bo eliminated. Personally, he had found the greatest difficulty in securing reforms. Two leading ladies who had come to see him, lolling in Rolls-Royces, adorned with sables, and smoking gold-tipped cigarettes, scoffed ot the idea of improving the lot of the chorus girl,' and said the girls were able to live comfortably on 25s a week.
