Amnesty for Rebels GOVERNMENT NERVOUS IN BY-ELECTIONS. REPUBLICANS GAINING GROUND. [By Cable—Frees Association—Copyright.j London, Nov. 8. Mr W- T. Cosgrave announced in Dail Eireann that the Executive naa decided to abandon all prosecutions of persons apprehended for alleged crimes during the state of rebellion between December, 1921. and May, 1923. He said that tne Government believed that the reign of law and order, now happily restored, could best be served by the step now decided upon. The Dail has adjourned to enable members to participate in a miniature general election, as fourteen by-eiec-tions are pending. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Dublin correspondent says the Free State party approaches the contest with nervousness. It feels that the Republicans have gained strength in recent months. Events in the Dail, in the Free State army and in Britain have not strength, ened Mr Cosgrave’s hands and it would not be surprising if the Republicans make a strong show in the by-elections. The Boundary Commission met in London and adjourned, awaiting communications from the Free State and Ulster.— {A. and N.Z.)
