THE OROPLEY INQUIRY. In connection with the extension of the terms of the order of reference of the Cropley Commission, it was stated on behalf of the Crown that the Crown would allege that the terms ofi a prospective tenancy required the landlord to erect a petrol pump outside the premises. The chief of the traffic departent opposed this. Aiderman Walker wag interviewed and subsequently the City Council’s approval was given, and Aiderman Walker was given a cheque for £25 by the estate agent concerned with the property, which he endorsed and paid into a bank. This, the Crown alleges, was for using his influence as an aiderman in securing the erection of the pump. The Commission, owing to the difficulty of securing witneses, adjourned till Monday.
