TAUPO RAILWAY.
ENGLISH CONTRACT LET. (Received 7, 8.50 am.) London, Nov. 6. Messrs Oammell. Laird and Co. have secured a half-million sterling contract to construct a railway in New Zealand from K’akahi to the" southern end of Lake Taupp.—(Reuter), This railway has long been projected by the Taupo Totara Timber Company, and will open up a large area of valuable country. The construction, pnd the attitude of th© State towards the enterprise have occupied the attention of a Royal Commission and Parliamenary committees., Kakahi is situated on the Wanganui river at the junction of the Whehapa-pa river.
