HAVELOCK NORTH.
HERETAUNGA SCHOOL SPORTS. The annual school sports in connection with the Heretaunga School took place this afternoon. The weather was threatening, but fortunately the rain kept off and enabled the sports to be held. There was a good attendance of parents and friends, who were hospitably entertained to afternoon ten by the headmaster, the Rev. J. G. Castle, and Mrs. Castle. The races were under the charge of Mr. J. J. Millar, and were run up to time,' the boys acquitting themselves well in every event. During the past year a great improvement has been made in the grounds. A number of big trees have been removed, giving a clear view of the school and the whole are now well kept and were favourp’oly commented on by the visitors. At the close of the sports Mrs. Castle presented the trophies to the successful competitora* The following -werts the officials:— Judges, Rev, Canon K. E. Maclean and Mr. A. I. Rainbow; timekeeper, Mr. R. Mackenzie; recorder. Mr. R. T. Cole; starter. Mr. J. J. Millar. The details will be published tomorrow. GENERAL. The Bishop of Waiapu (Dr. Sedgwick) will conduct a confirmation service in St. Luke’s Church, Havelock North, at 7.30 to-night. At a meeting of the Havelock North War Memorial Committee last evening it was decided to hold a short service on November 11th, Armistice Day, dedicating tho war memorial to the memory of those who fell in the war. The service will commence at 10.45. Relatives of the dead will be given an opportunity to place wreaths on the memorial. Everybody is invited to the service. The committee has decided not to send out any special invitations.
