Premier’s Resignation MR. BALDWIN IN OFFICE. A SEAT FOR MR. ASQUITH. By Cable—Presi Aeeoclatlon—Gapyrighi (Received 5, 10.15 a.m.) London, Nov. 4. Mr. Ramsay MacDonald has resigned and Mt. Stanley Baldwin becomes Prime Minister. There is a likelihood of Mr. B. Kenyon (Liberal) resigning the Chesterfield division of Derbyshire, Mr. Asquith succeeding. It is unlikely the Chesterfield Unionists will oppose Mr. Asquith.—(A. and N.Z.) WAR AGAINST SOCIALISM. CONSTITUTIONAL LIBERALS ENTERTAINED. (Received 5, 12.50 p.m.) London, Nov. 4. Mr. Churchill and other Constitutionalist members of the House of Commons wore given a dinner at the Constitutional Club by prominent Conservatives. Mr. Ronald McNeill, in proposing a toast during the evening, referred to Mr. Churchill. He said he had never been deficient in backbone, and was plentifully endowed with spirit, for which there was never more need. Mr. Churchill, replying, declared that Socialism was the very antithesis of Liberalism. He looked forward to seeing Parliament take up the broken pledges given to the dominions at; the Imperial Conference, and also to seeing tire spade set to work again on the naval base at Singapore. Lord Birkenhead solemnly, declared that the first task of statesmanship was to solve tho unemployment problem. i He also commented on the increased Socialist vote at the elections. —(A. and N.Z.)
