OBITUARY.
HUSBAND OF GEORGE ELIOT. (Received 5, 9.30 a.m.) London, Nov. 4. The death is announced of Mr. J. W. Cross, aged 84, husband of George ; Eliot, the novelist, whom he married < in May. 1880, and whose death occurred the following December. “The Times” remarks that few i probably of the present generation will I have realised the husband so long sur- ; vived her.—(Times.)
