BETRAYED BY COMRADE.
ANGLO-NEW ZEALAND DIVORCE' DRAMA. A PATHETIC STORY. (Received 5, 12.40 p.m.) London, Nov. 4. A pathetic story was unfolded in the Divorce Court. Harold Berry, a civil servant, was awarded £BOO damages against one Wakelin who is now living with Mrs Berry in New Zealand. Wakelin came to England with the New Zealand Forces and was billeted upon Airs Berry, whose husband was in France. A year after the Armistice Mrs Berry suddenly vanished from her home. Petitioner traced her to Tilbury and discovered that Wakelin had paid her fare to New Zealand. He overtook his wife at Toulon, but failed to persuade her to return, Still insistent, he followed her to New Zealand, where he saw Wakelin and found he had great affection for his wife. The latter wrote to the petitioner: “I have gone too far. Seeing you and the pity of it nearly drive* m© to distraction. You will never know how highly I think of you for your sacrifice.’’ * Air. Justice Duke granted petitioner custody of the boy, 7| years of age, and tfi© girl, four years of age. who aro now in New Zealand with Airs Berry.—(A. and N.Z.)
