THE ROYAL SHOW.
The first “Royal” Show ever held in the Dominion opened at Palmerston North. To-morrow the stock will be judged, including the dogs entered for ihe exhibition of the Manawatu Kennel Club, and the motor show u under the auspices of the New Zealand Motor Traders’ Association. At noon, His Excellency the Governor-General will perforin the opening ceremony, at the conclusion of which ho will be jgresented with an address from the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association. ! This function will be followed by a proi gramme of ring events, including pony ! jumping, a bending coinbpetition, au exhibition of trotting, the contest for , the Gillies Cup for the best lady rider, hunters’ jumping in pairs, and a hunters* steeplechase competition. In tho evening there will be a smoke concert, at which Lord Jcllicoe, Mr Massey Ministers of tho Crown:, and other distinguished visitors will be present. On Thursday, which will be “people’s day,” the programme includes wire jumping, a trotting competition, must cal stalls, pony high jump, and the hunters’ competition for the Royal champ ic-nship. There will be a grand parade of all the prize live stock on the ground that can be led, and this should prov* the best exhibition of the kind ever held in New Zealand. Prospective visitors from other towns are reminded that cheap excursion tickets are being issued on the railways from all parts to Palmerston North.
