MODERN ROBIN HOOD.
A CALIFORNIAN BANK ROBBER. RANCHER’S DOUBLE LIFE. (Received 4, 8.50 a.m.) New York, Nov. 3. A Robin Hood of California was discovered through the confession of William Penick Richards, whose exploits put to shame the operations of Jesse James and other early highwaymen. Richards ajipeared to be a prosperous rancher. He was also keeping a country hotel. An accumulation of evidence caused him to confess to the police that ho had led gangs which roboed five banks in different parts of the state during the last two years. He was identified by several bank officials.—(A. and N.Z.)
