Mr. E. W. Watson qnd his daughter, Mrs Sykes, left Hastings this' morning on a visit to Wellington. Mr. F. L. Bone, of Hastings, wno has been on a visit to Sydney, arrived back in Hastings last Saturday. The new commander of H.M.S. Veronica Commander P. Hawden, arrived by the liner Remuera on Sunday and proceeded to Auckland yesterday. Dame Nellie Melba is again ill in Melbourne, suffering from laryngitis, and has been ’forbidden by her doctors to sing, or even talk, for a month. Mr Bernard Chambers, of Hawko’s Bay, returned from a visit to England by the Remuera on Sunday. He wa? accompanied on the trip by Miss H. M. Chambers. Mr. W. Gimblett left Hastings by th© mail train this morning for Palmerston North, where he will judge the Southdown sheep at Hie first Itbyrfl Show. Mr. and Mrs. Herrick Tonkin, of Dunedin, formerly, of Napier, are to return to Napier this month, Mr. Tonkin having been reappointed to Jie Napier branch of Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd. Mr. R. H, Lanauze, who is known in theatrical circles a s “Richard Webster,” arrived in Hastings last Saturday on a visit to his family prior to leaving next week *to rejoin his company ar Sydney. England has produced one of the world’s greatest dancers in Mlle. Butsova, who is with Madame Pavlova at Covent Garden. Her real name is Hilda Boot, and she is a native of Nottingham. Commander R. J. Buchanan, who has just retired from the *ervice of the Royal Navy, arrived by tho Rem uera. Tyler, assistant city engineer of Auckland, who has made an extensive tour of Great Britain and the United States, for the purpose of investigating and observing the latest engineering methods employed in large modern cities, has returned to Auckland.
