The local branch of the Mothers’ Union which has had a very successful year was the scene of a very pleasant t unction on Thursday afternoon when the president, Mrs Davidson, and the secretary, Mrs Rough, who are both leaving the district, were presented with gifts of remembrance. Mrs R. H. Tod spoke of the good work done by the president and secretary, and asked Mrs Pay to make the presentations, which were spontaneous tokens of appreciation and affection. The Union has a membership of 32, with an average attendance of 25 members and 15 children. During the year addresses were given on many interesting subjects by speakers from Havelock North, Hastings, and Napier, which were thoroughly appreciated by th® members, a number of whom emphasised the fact of the Union being a great factor for good in their daily lives. Exceptionally heavy, rain was experienced here on Friday, the creek overflowing its banks and doing a considerable amount of damage to the gardens on low lying lana.
