Train Wrecked
TIME BOMB IN SLEEPER. OUTRAGE IN CANADA. SIX PASSENGERS KILLED. Ottawa, Oct. 31. Someone planted a time bomb in a Canadian Pacific Railway sleeping car crossing British Columbia last night. When it exploded in th© early morning six, passengers wer® killed and the train was wrecked. The police investigations showed that the bomb was directed against Mr. Peter Veregin. who wa a among those killed. Another victim waa a member of th© Provincial Legislature, and others were prominent people. Mr. Veredin was 70 years of ago and one of the most picturesque figures in western Canada. A quarter of a century ago he came from Europe, leading a colony of 70,000 Doukholiors who , were driven out of Southern Russia. They settled first on the prairie lands in Manitoba, and Saskatchewan, but had much difficulty with j the authorities because of their proclivity for marching nude through the 1 countryside whenever they had a grievance against the Government. Ten years ago they removed into the fruitgrowing district in British Columbia i and became excellent settlers., | Veregin was literally their king, but . recently he lost his hold against" some i e y° Un £ e r leaders. The police believe that one of these planted the bomb in a valise, which very effectively removed him.—(Svdnev “Sun” cable).
