PRIME MINISTER’S SPEECH. OTHER BIG ENTERPRISES IN PROSPECT. Shannon, Nov, 3. In a speech at the formal opening of the development scheme, Mr Massey referred to the great step that had been taken in the direction of reticulation of the whole country, and referred to other enterprises on a huge scale which would shortly he under way. Waikato would be provided with power from Arapuni, and Waikaremoana would be another large scheme that would soon be in operation. The Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Public Works, stated that in addition to £1,000,000, which represented the cost of the construction o£ the head works and general machinery, there would be required an expenditure of an additional £i,UUO,OOO in transmission but of this £400,000 would be charged to the Waikaremoana scheme. Mr Massey was presented with a golden key and Mr Coates with a silver cigarette case in commemoration dT the occasion. At the conclusion of the speeches Mr Coates turned on the power at Mr Massey’s direction amid cheers. .
