THE PICTURE HOUSES.
COSY DE LUXE. There was a large attendance at the Cosy Theatre, Hastings, on Saturday evening, who were anxious to see the picturisation of Zane Grey’s novel, ‘‘The Call of the Canyon.” That it fulfilled all expectations there is no doubt, and many expressed their intention of being present again this evening. The featured players in this strong picture are. Richard Dix, Lois Wilson and Majorie Daw. The principal supporting players are Noah Beery, Ricardo Cortez and Fred Huntley. Each player gave a finished interpretation of his respective role and gained many admirers thereby. “The Call of the Canyon’* is a romance of a girl for a returned soldier. With shattered nerves, the soldier returns from the war, makes good and recovers health in the great west. The girl would sooner enjoy the luxury and ease of the rich east but the call of the canyon and to her love is too great. She returns to the mountains and lives anew in th© love of her sweetheart. There is a fine supporting programme, and the orchestral selections alone are worth 'the price of admission. MUNICIPAL. The two features presented at the Hastings Municipal Theatre on Saturday evening were viewed by a large audience. There is always a demand foi Clara Kimball Young and her admirers turned up in full focre to see her in “The Woman ofi Bronze.” Though the picture is not, perhaps, the very best she has appeared in, it is a unique opportunity for her to display her dramatic ability, which she does to the full in her interpretation of the woman who has been crushed by the wheel of her husband’s career. A battle between cattle rustlers*and a sheriff’s posse, a run-away stage coach team, a drunken man shooting up a cow. town, are but a few of the many exciting incidents in Jack Hoxie’s picture “The Back Trail.” It is the story of a man who returned from the war, played by Jack Hoxie, whose memory is gone. Mistakenly identified as a man who had broken his father’s heart by wild escapades,, he becomes a factor in a plot to deprive his foster sister of her fortune. Excellent pictures support.
