DAVIS CUP PROSPECTS. CAN AUSTRALIA WIN? New York, Sept. 10. A Philadelphia telegram says the draw for the Davis Cup final is as follows:— First day: Patterson v. Tilden, Ohara Wood v. Richards. Second day: Tilden and Johnston v. Patterson and Wood. Third day: Wood v. Tilden, Patterson v. Richards. The matches will begin at 1.30 in the afternoon at the Germantown Cricket Club courts, where Wood, Patterson, Kalins and Schlesingei will practice to-day. American observers express certainty that the Davis Cup will remain in the United States, but the question has now arisen even whether Australia will be able to repeat last year s and the 1922 showing. Patterson has beaten Richards before, but it is not the same Richards to-day. He has been playing brilliantly at hi 8 best form, while Patterson has recently been decidedly below par. Wood, too, is not playing as well as a month ago. It is generally held that Australia cannot expect to win any of the singles, but has a decidedly more even chance to win the doubles if they can return to form. -(A. and N.Z.)
