SPRING MEETING OPENS. The weather is fine for the opening day of the Wanganui Jockey Club’s spring meeting, and there is a large attendance. The track is in good order. Lord and Lady Jellicoe are guests of the club. Results :— Putiki Hack Handicap.—Glengariff 1, Mountain Signal 2 Opa 3. Scratched : Kuhio. Won b ya neck, the same distance separating second and third horses. Time. 1.51 2-5. Okehu Hurdles.—Crown Coin I, Demand 2, Velociform 3. Scratched: Explorer. Won by two lengths, three lengths separating second and third horses. Time, 3.17 4-5. Maiden Handicap:—Bonogue 1, Papaponga 2, Shut Eye 3. All started. Won by a neck two lengths separating second and third horses. Time, 1.15 2-3. Bonhomme bolted and did not start. Jumpers’ Flat.—Alaric T., Brigadier Bill 2. Hyrax 3. Scratched: The Curragh and Birkenella. Won by a length, half a length separating second and third horses. Time. 2.21. Guineas.—lnferhn (J. Barry) 1, Ilka 2, Gaillard 3. Won by a length. Time 1.56 1-5. Scratched: Shining Armour.
RACING IN AUSTRALIA. FARCEUR SCRATCHED (Received 11, 10.55 a.m.; Sydney, Sept. 11. Farceur has been scratched for the Chelmsford Stakes.—(A. and N.Z.) ENGLISH ST. LEGER. (Received 11, 12.5 p.m.) London, Sept. 10. The St. Leger (Doncaster) resulted: Salmon Trout 1, Santorb 2, Polyphonies 3. Seventeen started.
