(Own Correspondent). The annual meeting of St. Andrew’s Church parishioners was'held at WarpuKurau on iliursutty evening, 'liie Kev K. F. lush president.
The report and balance-sheet were adopted and Air J. Warren took the opportunity of referring to the raet tiiui the aiiairs of the church weie. most satisfactory, showing great progress and reflecting much credit upon all the efforts made by tho various organisations o.t the church. ,
Reference was made to tho fine services performed iby Alias King as organist. Good reports were also recorded regarding the work of the -Minister m connection with the new church Fn the lluLuiua iScltieiuout, and it was an licenced that the contract for that building had already been let. The week-end count in connection with the Queen Carnival movement is .announced as follows.: —Country Queen (Aliss L. Jones), 9000; Sports’ Queen (Sister Turnbull), 8406; Civil Service Queen (Miss N. Pethcrick), 8000. In connection with the Queen Carnival on Friday, tho promoters of the Sports’ Queen arranged a grand torch light procession to further the claims of their representative. The procession left the Fire Brigade station ■ and paraded tho principal streets to tho temporary Town Hall, where a successful dunce was held. The Sports’ Queen Committee is working at high pressure to achieve/a successful position, and a great evening’s pleasure was attained. Air G. E. Fowler, secretary to the Central Hawke’s Bay Power Board,,left for AVellington by to-day’s mail train in order to attend the conference of {delegates from the various power boards in the Dominion. Air Charles Pattison, chairman of the Board, will leave for AVellington on Alonday for a similar pur pose. GENERAL ITEMS.
A portion of the new AVaipukurau School was brought into use yesterday, pupils in Standards A r . and Al. being installed in their class-rooms.
