VICTIMS’ TERRIBLE ORDEAL.
London. July 29. Th© victims of the Edinburgh smash wer© mostly women and girls, members of a Polytechnic holiday party from London, Oxford and Manchester, residing temporarily in a hostel in Edinburgh. They had been on an excursion to St. Andrews, and had just transferred into tli© stationary suburban train.
Seventy-five minutes elapsed before the last of those injured could be extricated from th© telescoped carriages. Every movement of th© structure with crowbars evoked groans from those pinned under. Doctors succoured the imprisoned with brandy whil© th© rescuers wer© smashing th© woodwork. Th© accident was caused through an incoming train running into a stationary train. Four carriages of th© latter were telescoped.—(Reuter).
