ALL BLACKS’ EXTRA MAN. HON. COATES’S STATEMENT. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, July 29. The Hon. J. G. Coates, whose name was brought into prominence in connection with the suggested inclusion of another player in the All Black team, explains that he simply carried a message from a certain gentleman in AA r ellington to the members of the management committee who were going to Palmerston North for Saturday’s match. He did this without comment to oblige the senders of the message, as they had no means of commun.icating with the committee in the time at their disposal. HASTINGS SCHOOLS’ COMPETITION. Matches played in the Hastings primary schools’ competition last Saturday resulted as follows:— Seniors. Central v. Parkvale.—Central won by 8 to 3. For the winners W. Lane and Dixon scored tries, Thompson converting one, Beuth scoring tor Parkvale. Mr. Hickling refereed. Mahora v. Havelock.—Th© former won by 32 to 3. Beattie, Hudson, Duff. Danks, Morley, Brinson, Love, and Godber scored tries for the winners, the latter also potting a goal. Love and Prebble converting two of the tries. Steele scored for the losers. Mr. Bell held th© whistle. Convent v. West.—This match was drawn, 3 points each Plummer scored for Convent, and Keith for Avest. Juniors. Mahora v. Havelock.—Mahora won by H to nil. Hardv (2) and AValker scored tries, and Flowers converted on© of the tries for th© winners. j\langateretere v. Parkvale.—Mangatereter© won by 15 to 3. Kirkland and McErlick crossed tho lino for the victors. the latter also potting a goal. Nikera converted one of the tries. Crawford scored a try for Parkvale. Convent y. AVest.—This match was not played as Convent lailed to put a team in the field.

Hastings Central are now in an unassailable position, having lost only the first match of the season. PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ GAMES. In the Napier primary schools’ competition. the matches resulted as follow :— A Grade.— Cliv 0 (8) defeated High School (5); Marist (25) defeated Central (0) : Port defaulted to Taradalc,: Marist (33) defeated Hastings Street (0); Central (8) defeated Taradalc (3). B Grade.—Marist (6) defeated Central (3) ; Taradale (IS) defeated Hastings Street (3). Messrs McKechnie. McLeod, Bullen Knowles and Murphy refereed. LEAGUE FOOTBALL. ENGLISH TEAM TO PLAY AUCKLAND. Auckland, July 29. The English League team to play Auckland province to-morrow is:—Fullback, Knapman; three-quarters, Ben iham, Howley. Bacon, and Rix; halves, Mooney and Hurcombc; forwards.
