BALTIC SPRUCE.
CHEAPER THAN WHITE PINE. (Per Press Association.) Invercargill, July 29. The Southland Sawmill Workers’ Union decided to vigorously protest against the 'importation of foreign timbers and to bring the matter before the Premier and th G Labour leader. It is stated that the price of Baltic spruce butter boxes imported from Sweden was below the cost of production of white pine, due to lower wages. Unless something was done it was contended a large number would become unemployed.
