GERMAN ELECTIONS.
INTENSE AND BITTER CAMPAIGN EXEREMISIS v. MODERATES London, April 27. The “Daily Express’s” Berlin correspondent says: ‘ ‘As polling day approaches lor the Beicnstag election, in which 23 parties are participating, che campaign is becoming daily more ■jitter and more intense. The struggle is best described as a fight in which extremists, both Nationalists and Communists,. are concentrating their attacks upon the middle parties, comprising Socialists and Democrats. Owing to the intense Nationalist campaign, the Coalition Government has taken l the unprecedented course of issuing an appeal to the peole, pointing out that the extremists’ policy of the rejection of the reparation experts’ report would isolate Germany from the world. The Democrats point out that a Nationalist victory would mean foreign credits and continued enemy oppression to help M. Poincare in his elections.” —(A. and N.Z.) ELECTION RIOTS. Berlin, April 27. There were serious disturbances in connection with an electoral meeting of the German Peoples’ party. Communists blocked the neighbouring streets and seized and belaboured supporters of the People’s party with life preservers and rubber truncheons until the police were reinforced. Over 40 persons were injured. Sixteen arrests were made. —(Reuter).
