The Deposed Caliph

Message to Moslem World

PROTEST AGAINST ANGORA DECISION.

AN INTEK-ISLAMIC CONFERENCE. (By Cable.—Pre** A Moctation—Copyright.] (Received 13, 9.0 a.m.) Berne, March 12. The ex-Calipb has addressed a message to Mussulmans throughout the world, protesting against the abolition of the Caliphate by the impious decision of the present majority in the Turkish National Assembly. He describes the measure as fundamentally sacriligious, null and void, and states the Moslem world unanimously approved of his election a year and a half ago and it alone is entitled to pronounce upon the question. Consequently he invited the authorised chief representatives of Mussulman committees throughout the world to communicate proposals and concrete contributions at the earliest possible moment for assembling a grand religious inter-lslamic congress which he purposes to convoke at the most opportune time in order to adopt the decision required by the situation.— (A. and N.Z.) WELCOME TO SWITZERLAND. Berne, March 11. A Swiss Government official waited on the ex-Caliph at his hotel and extended a welcome conditional on his refraining from politics. His wives remain, disconsolately in their hotel and refuse to see visitors. —(A. and N.Z.)
