QUARTERLY MEETING
The quarterly meeting of the Napier Eire Board was held last night, when there were present: Messrs J. P. Heath, G. Thorne-George, J. W. Norrie, J. B. Andrew, W. Hay, H. J. Harman, S. P. Spiller (secretary) and Superintendent Pickering. Mr Hugho, inspector of fire brigades, reporting on his visit to the new central station, said that the building compared favourably with any in other towns. He suggested several small improvements. The street hydrants were in an unsatisfactory condition. —The report was received and it was stated that the hydrants had all been attended to. Superintendent Pickering reported that there had been 23 calls during the quarter ,the most serious being the fire at D. S. Laing and Son's on Boxing Day. Fireman Lawrence, who fell off the Dennis engine on the way to the outbreak, had now recovered. The increasing danger of permitting lorries loaded with benzine to traverse main thoroughfares needed looking into. The position of inspector of fire escapes required greater attention. New hose had arrived and all plant and appliances were in good working order. — Adopted. Dcputy-Sux-ierintendent J. 11. Riddell reported that the Port Brigade had attended four calls during the quarter. The plant was all in good order.— Adopted. Mr J. A. Louis Hay, architect to the Board gave details of extras in the erection of the new fire station.
