Th© first school committee meeting of the new year was held in the schoolhouse on Monday last- Present i Messrs Taylor (chairman), Lorking (secretary). McKissic]!, Mulcaster and Mrs Goldfinch. In his report the head, master (Mr Lorking) stated the roll numbered 37 with an average attendance of 35- He strongly pointed out that it was absolutely essential that parents send their children to school regularly as it was only by maintaining a good attendanct that the school could retain two teachers.
A team of cricketers and rounder players journeyed to Paki .Paki on Friday last and tried conclusions with the local players. After a very good game the rounders contest was won by Pukahu with 50 points to Jtheir credit against their opponents’ 37- During tlie progress of the cricket match a thunderstorm passed over and the game had to bo abandoned. A <lain’ty afternoon tea was dispensed with by the ladies present and much enjoyed by the visitors-
The season has been exceptionally good for farmers generally although the dairy farmer could do with more rain- Splendid results have been obtaised from grass seed and grain crops and the local wool clips have been excellent.
