RETENTION OF RANK.

RETIRED OFFICERS AFFECTED. RESTRICTIONS IMPOSED. In connection with the retention of rank and the wearing of uniform by retired officers of the New Zealand Military Forces, the following general order has just been issued by MajorGeneral Sir E. W. C. Chaytor, General Officer Commanding:— 1. —The following officers on retirement are eligible to retain their rank permanently (i.e., to use the title of their rank in civil life), and to wear uniform on appropriate and official occasions, and these privileges hold good throughout the world: (a) Officers New Zealand Permanent Forces, j (i fiese officers may be retired with the I substantive rank held at the time of j retirement or with any higher rank held on active service), (b) Officers who have served in a New Zealand force overseas. (These officers may be ' retired with the highest substantive i rank held in a New Zealand force over- ’ seas). I 2.-—His Majesty the King has been graciously pleased to extend to all officers of the New Zealand Territorial [Force who held commissions on the t active service list or in the reserve of oiiioeis between the sth. August, 1914, [and 31st. August. 1921, the privilege of using rank and wearing uniform on special occasions throughout the , British Empire. i 3.—Officers of the New Zealand .Territorial Force, other than those mentioned in paragraph 2, who are retired with permission to retain rank 'and wear uniform are eligible to use lite privilege within the Dominion of New Zealand only. 4_. —* he wearing of uniform by all retired officers, and the use of rank by officers entitled to the privilege under paragraphs 2 and 3 of this order, are restricted to special occasions when attending ceremonials and entertainments of a military nature, and on occasions when the wearing of uniform would appear appropriate.
