RANFURLY SHIELD ECHO. GOLD MEDALS FOR PLAYERS. The winning of a match against Ranfurly Shield champions is not usually one of the things a footballer gets gold medals for (says the “Auckland Star.") He has to take all the hard knocks mostly for the glory of his province and love of the game, and is glad to do it, but so magnificent was the effort by which the Auckland representative team redeemed its laurels by the defeat of the redoubtable Hawke’s Bay combination in the return War Memorial match at the Domain on October 6 that an enthusiastic supporter of Rugby has donated a set of gold meals for every member of the team as a souvenir of the occasion. The donor is Air C. G. Macindoe, a member of the Aucklano City Council, who made known his intention to the Auckland selector, Air V. R. Meredith, and while primarily making the donation to mark the his-' toric win against Hawke’s Bay, he decided to extend its scope to include a medal for all of the 21 players who represented the province this year in the record of winning every match at home. The presentation of the medals was to be publicly made by the Mayor, Air J. H. Gunson, at the Town Hall this Friday afternoon.
