METHODIST SYNOD.
THE CONCLUDING BUSINESS.
The Methodist Synod yesterday afternoon considered various recommendations from the Home Mission executive on matters remitted to it from the Conference. Some discussion took place on the question of schedule of duties of general superintendent, and it was ultimately decided to fremit the whole matter back to the committee for reconsideration.
Estimates of income and suggested grants for next year were considered and adopted. The report on Foreign Missions showed that a sum of oyer £l2OO had been raised by the circuits of the district. Matters in connection with the Theological College were discussed and appreciation expressed at the character of the work being done there. The report from the Paerata training college principally dealt with the appointment of a new Principal, and gratification expressed therewith. A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the chairman, the Rev. T. R. Richards, for his unfailing courtesy in his conduct of the business of the Synod during his seven years’ occupancy of the office of chairman. Votes of thanks were also accorded Lo the secretary, Rev. P. J. Cossum, and his assistants, Revs. E. E. Sage and W. S. Neal, also to all the hosts and hostesses who had entertained the visiting delegates. Votes of thanks also were accorded to the Revs. M. A. R. Pratt, H. T. Peat, and E. I. Cox for their addresses at th e Synod public functions. It was decided to hold the next Synod in Palmerston North.
The Rev. A. Mcßean was appointed representative -to Conference. The ministers of the Hawke’s BayManawatu district met at luncheon yesterday to do honour to the Rev. T. R. Richards, chairman of the district, who will be removing to another sphere of labour af-ter next Conference. On behalf of the ministers of the district, Rev. A. Mcßean made a presentation of a gold-mounted fountain pen as a little token of the esteem in which h© was held by them. Various brethren spoke in terms of appreciation, and wished their guest well in the future ministry he exercised. NELSON SYNOD. Greymouth, November 15. The Nelson district Methodist Synod has concluded a three days’ session. There were 21 representatives present, the Rev. M. Greensland (Blenheim) presiding. The Rev. W. B. Pickering, probationer was recommended for ordination. also Messrs. M. Ayrton and F. Bateup (home missionaries) for acceptance by the Conference. An additional agent for the Dennis-ton-Runanga district was recommended. also a married probationer for Picton. It was recommended that Hokitika. Motueka and Refton be relieved for another year of the obligation to take married ministers.
Regarding th 6 coal dispute the Synod recommended that th© mining district be assisted with collections by other districts.
