HAVELOCK NORTH.

CONFIRMATION SERVICE.

A large and reverent congregation were present last evening at St. Luke’s Church, when the Bishop of Waiapu administered the rite of confirmation to sixty candidates- The Rev. J. B. Brocklehurst acted as Bishop’s chaplain and the Rev. Canon Maclean presented the candidates. His Lordship gave a thoughtful and telling address to those about to be confirmed* reminding them that confirmation .was but the beginning of a new life, not the end, and there must be growth, day by day. The secret of our life, he said, was abiding in Christ. As the grafted branch grew by close contact with the living branch, so th’ey must abide in Christ* Sin severed anvonp from Christ. He urged each candidate to bear in mind three things, which were, faith and prayer. Repentance was .being. sorry for sin, which hurst Jesus Christ. Faith was trusting in God) and taking Jesus at His word, and prayer was speaking with God. There was no limit to the power of prayer. Prayer opened up the through which He could do His will. The world’s need was to get. into the eilence of God and to let I Him speak. They needed to hear the voice of God speaking to them. The I address was listened to with rapt attention bv all, and the service con- ; chided with the hymn, “Lead Kindly , Light.” and the Benediction by the Bishop.
