STOLEN GAS.
A BY-PASSED METER. COMPANY’S EMPLOYEE FINED. ( Special to “Tribune.”) Christchurch, November 14. Daring and clever systematic thieving of gas was disclosed at the Magistrate’s Court this morning, when it was found that an employee of the Christchurch Gas Company had for . some months used p-as which was never registered in a meter. By means of • an underground connection which; “tapped” the gas main, James Albert 1 , Scales, of Now Brighton, has been able I to enjoy the advantages of an unlimited gas supply without paying. Scales , was a trusted employee of the company i and it was not until last month, when | ho had his gas meter, through which; very little gas was used, shifted to the i verandah of his house, that suspicions ' arose. Investigations followed and re-* suited in Scales’s appearance at the! Magistrate’s Court this morning be- 1 fore J.P.’s, when he was fined £5. i
