ECONOMY IN JAPAN.
NAVAL BUDGET CUT DOAVN. OTHER APPROPRIATIONS TO BE REDUCED. New York, Nov. 12. The Chicago “Tribune’s” Tokio correspondent says: Due to the need of drastic economies as the result of the earthquake, the Naval Ministry voluntarily reduced its budget by sixty million yen and accepted a special appropriation of 105 million and an ordinary appropriation of 117 million. Orders for the construction of a first-class cruiser have been cancelled and it is understood the cancellation of other contracts will probably occur. Other Governmental Departments expect their appropriations tb be stringently reduced.—(A. and N.Z.)
