METHODIST SYNOD

TO-DAY’S SESESIONS.

The annual meeting of the Hawke’s Bay -Manawatu Synod was continued to-day.

A Communion service was conducted in the church at 9.30 a.m. by Rev. T. R. Richards, assisted by Revs. M. A. R. Pratt and A. Mitchell. Rev. E. T. Cox, M.A., delivered a pre-Communion address. After this devotional service the Synod commenced its routine business, there being present ip addition to the ministers representative laymen from all the corcuits of the district, and Mr. T. R. Hodder, district secretary of church property, and Mr. G. H. Stiles, secretary to the District Young People’s Committee. The application of the Rev. A. Harding for permanent supernumeraryship was regretfully acceded to. The annual statistical returns for the district were presented by the Rev. P. J. Cossum. and showed, a general increase in all departments. Mr. G. H. Stiles presented the statistics of the young people’s department. and the best thanks of the Synod were tendered to him for his painstaking work and lucid report. Last night a well-attended public meeting was held in Wesley Church. The Rev. T. R. Richards presided and addresses were given by the Revs. M. A. Rugby Pratt a former minister of the church, who was heartily welcomed by th© congregation, and by the Rev. H. T. Peat. The choir sang several anthems.
